THE HYDROGRAPHIC PROCESS

Surface Preparation

Preparation is the most vital part of the process step. First, we pre-clean and remove any contaminants. Next, we sand and apply a high-grade primer to the surface of the piece. After the primer dries, a basecoat color is then sprayed. The basecoat color will determine the overall look of most dipped products. Ask your rep or come on in to see samples.

Hydrodipping

The pattern that you choose is in the form of a water-soluble vinyl film. The film is then laid on top of the water in our hydrotank, specially designed for water transfer printing. An activator chemical is then sprayed to prep the print to be dipped. Once applied the part is ready to be “dipped”. The water being displaced by the object causes the pattern to efficiently wrap around the part and bonds the ink to the basecoat no matter how complex the shape, creating a continuous, highly detailed finish.

Final Finish

After the part has been “dipped” it is removed from the tank and rinsed to clear any residue or contaminants. Once dried, the part gets moved back into the paint booth where an automotive clear coat is then applied. You have your choice of clear coats which can be matte, soft-touch or high gloss. After allowing the topcoat to cure, the part is then carefully inspected before being packaged for delivery or customer pick-up.
